Vicki wanted to ride 100 miles today. After stops at Hurricane Creek, Cole Creek and Jeff Busby (total of 30 miles) Jack called it a day and joined Cliff and Barry in the SAG truck.
Vicki then took on the next 70+ miles solo. The SAG met her at several stops along the way, including Old Trace, Dancy, Witch Dance, and the Chickasaw Council House.
After one more stop at Chickasaw Village Site, Vicki completed her ride 2 miles South of the Parkway Visitor Center. She rode over 7 hours at an average speed of 18.5 MPH and finished with over 102 miles. She was sustained by Coca-cola and peanuts.
My hat's off to you intrepid men and women, what with the bad backs, kidney stones (I can empathize), pace-makers, and other annoyances and inconveniences consistent with our Baby Boomer generational status. But you know better than I that it's just all in a day's work for the boomers; you are proving this right now. And the "102-Mile-Woman" is a phenom!
ReplyDeleteWish I could be there with you, but circumstances have determined that I supplement my passive retirement income with what the IRS calls earned income (I know some of you are there with me). But my peculiar work schedule limits my discretionary time off, at least for the near future. Perhaps a second real retirement awaits me, but I digress.
Sorry about the bike batteries. Are they faulty, worn out, or just behaving like typical batteries? Anyway, the battery issue reminds me of a true funny story that's part of my life and that occurred about 50 years ago. Jack, remind me to tell you the story when you get back.
Since I don't participate in any of the popular social media forums, I'm not familiar with their decorum, but I suspect I have breached some rule or protocol with this long rambling post. So I'll give it a rest and wish all of you Godspeed and a safe return. I am genuinely impressed.
